Whether you’re a nudibranch enthusiast, or just curious about these fascinating (and often gloriously colorful) creatures, you won’t want to miss this Hydrous Ocean Salon. We’ll have some excellent (free) wine for sipping, great conversation, and a fun talk by our own nudibranch expert - Allison Fritts-Penniman.
Not sure what a nudibranch is? Briefly, they’re snails that lost their shell over evolutionary time. Since they don’t have a shell for protection, they have to use other ways to defend themselves like accumulating toxic chemicals in their flesh to make them taste bad to predators. It turns out that some species of nudibranchs feed on corals - so we may have some debate about whether our coral-loving community can embrace these sneaky predators :-)
Meanwhile, if you just can’t wait to preview one of the many strange and wonderful nudibranch “super powers” - check out this Deep Look video.
