We are an international community of scientists, divers, designers, filmmakers, technologists, educators, and concerned citizens who love the ocean and want to share it to protect it. The health of the world’s ocean is rapidly degrading, but how can we protect what we can’t see?

Expeditions are core to everything we do. They provide you with the opportunity to dive into the ocean with us, learn about ocean science and sustainability, and more. Together, we capture our experiences with new technologies, making them available to scientists and the general public.

We use frontier technologies to bring experiences of the oceans to wherever you are, without requiring that you dive into the ocean yourself. We combine science, design, and technology to create immersive experiences that foster emotional connections and inspire marine stewardship.

Ocean Education

Our goal is to share the ocean with everyone through our educational programs. Though human survival relies on marine environments, oceans are generally over-exploited, under-protected, and out of mind. We want to change this.

In the end we will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand; and we will understand only what we are taught.

Hydrous CEO Dr. Erika Woolsey presents at the 2018 National Geographic Explorers Festival and asks “How do we care about something we never see or experience?”

Our Kickstarter campaign to complete production of IMMERSE - our 360º Virtual Reality Experience was successful and we look forward to sharing this piece widely- with classrooms, policy makers, film festivals, and on online platforms. You can view a 2D demo reel here.
