Bronze Coral (Acropora hyacinthus)

950.00

This bronze coral sculpture is the first of its kind in the world. We non-invasively modeled a living coral underwater and combined modern 3D printing techniques with old-world, traditional bronze casting methods.

This 3D print was modeled after a living coral colony on a Maldivian reef using noninvasive underwater photogrammetry techniques. You can view the digital model here. It was first captured in 2014 near an uninhabited island in the Maldives called Vavvaru. The Hydrous returned in 2015 and 3D captured the same colony to measure growth.

The genus Acropora contains fast-growing species characterized by branching or tabular growth forms, and tends to be most susceptible to bleaching when stressed by abnormally warm water temperatures.

Dimensions: ~ 5" x 4" 3"
